Seven massive men in leather vests had surrounded three teenage girls outside the mall, and one of the girls was crying hysterically while another was filming everything on her phone.

I’m a security guard at Westfield Shopping Center. Fifty-eight years old, retired cop, thought I’d seen everything in my thirty years on the force. But what I witnessed that Tuesday afternoon changed how I see the world.

It was 3 PM when I got the call on my radio. “Frank, we’ve got a situation in the north parking lot. Group of bikers cornering some teenagers. Looks aggressive.”

I ran. Full sprint for the first time in years. My hand was already on my pepper spray. Seven bikers versus three teenage girls wasn’t going to end well.
