I abandoned my sick daughter at hospital but a stranger biker started taking care of her. I’m writing this because I need the world to know what kind of mother I was and what kind of man he is.

Because my daughter deserves better than me. And he deserves to be recognized for saving her when I couldn’t.

My name is Rebecca and my daughter Lily is six years old. She was diagnosed with leukemia when she was four.

The day the doctor told us, I felt my entire world collapse. My husband had left us two years before. I was working two jobs just to keep the lights on. And suddenly my baby had cancer.

I tried. God knows I tried. I sat with her through the first round of chemo. Held her while she vomited. Watched her beautiful blonde hair fall out in clumps. Slept in that uncomfortable hospital chair night after night.

But I broke. I’m not proud of it. I’m ashamed every single day. But I broke.

The medical bills were destroying us. I’d already filed for bankruptcy. My credit cards were maxed out. I lost my apartment. Lost my car. Lost everything except the clothes on my back and my dying daughter.

One night, eight months ago, I told Lily I was going to get her some ice cream. She smiled at me with those big blue eyes and said, “Okay Mommy. Hurry back.”

I didn’t come back.
