A British study found that people who take corticosteroids long-term have a higher risk of developing dementia.
Glucocorticoids such as prednisone affect brain function by altering levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Even inhaled corticosteroids like fluticasone can have adverse effects if used in high doses or for extended periods. It is essential that healthcare professionals closely monitor their use and consider alternative treatments.
